PowerPICC™ Catheter

The PowerPICC™ Catheter is part of the Bard portfolio, now supplied by BD. BD describes it as combining the efficiency of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) access and power injection into one catheter, giving clinicians a single device for both long line central venous therapy and contrast-enhanced imaging. According to BD, PowerPICC™ Catheters allow injection of contrast media for contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) scans at a maximum rate of 5 mL/sec, and are clearly labelled to differentiate them from PICCs that are not indicated for power injection. BD lists several design features intended to support reliable long line access. The catheters feature a reverse taper design that BD states provides kink resistance, and are indicated for short or long-term peripheral access to the central venous system for intravenous therapy. BD notes that PowerPICC™ is indicated for blood sampling on 4 French or larger catheters and that all PowerPICC™ Catheters are indicated for central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring. A winged hub makes the catheter compatible with the StatLock™ Stabilization Device, which BD says eliminates the need for sutures, and the family can be paired with the Sherlock 3CG+™ Tip Confirmation System for bedside placement and real-time tip confirmation.
