SOFIA™ Plus is the 6F long-length variant of the SOFIA distal access catheter, extending the standard SOFIA 6F working length from 115 cm to 125–131 cm to reach further distally into the intracranial circulation from femoral or radial access. The extended length makes SOFIA Plus the preferred choice for tall patients, transradial approaches, and procedures targeting distal M1/M2 or basilar artery aneurysms where a shorter catheter cannot advance far enough to provide useful support. Its 0.070 in inner diameter matches the SOFIA 6F, making it interchangeable in triaxial systems and direct aspiration protocols. The SOFIA Plus maintains the same soft-distal, stiff-proximal shaft profile that allows navigation through tortuous cervical and intracranial anatomy without vessel straightening.

- What is SOFIA™ Plus and how does it differ from standard SOFIA™?
- SOFIA Plus 6F is an extended-working-length version of SOFIA 6F. While SOFIA 6F offers 115 cm working length, SOFIA Plus 6F extends this to 125 cm (DA6125ST) and 131 cm (DA6131ST), allowing the catheter to reach further intracranially without requiring a longer guide sheath system. The inner diameter (0.070 in) and soft distal segment design are identical to SOFIA 6F.
- When is SOFIA™ Plus preferred over standard SOFIA™?
- SOFIA Plus is preferred in cases with long access routes — tall patients, tortuous aortic arch, high cervical ICA take-off, or vertebrobasilar lesions requiring the catheter to travel a greater total distance from access site to intracranial target. The additional 10–16 cm of working length relative to SOFIA 6F often makes the difference between reaching the target and falling short.
- Can SOFIA™ Plus be used for aspiration thrombectomy?
- Yes. SOFIA Plus 6F (0.070 in ID) provides the same aspiration capability as SOFIA 6F and is used in the same ADAPT and SOLUMBRA thrombectomy techniques. The longer working length is particularly useful when the occlusion is in the intracranial circulation of tall patients or when transradial access is used.
