BD® Conventional Needles and Syringes is BD's hypodermic portfolio for routine injection, aspiration and flushing. BD frames the portfolio around consistency: for over 125 years the company has built its legacy on the delivery of high-quality products, service and support, and describes its conventional needles and syringes as designed and manufactured to deliver consistent quality and reliable performance for each patient, in each procedure. BD states that the result is a hypodermic portfolio more widely used by healthcare professionals globally than any other company's. The portfolio is organised by tip type, which is what determines suitability for a given task. BD lists the BD Luer-Lok™ tip, generally used for injections requiring a secure connection of the syringe to another device, available in 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 50 mL; the luer slip tip, which provides a friction-fit connection, in the same volumes; the eccentric luer slip tip, generally used for venipuncture and aspirating fluids and allowing close proximity to the skin, in 20 and 50 mL; and the catheter tip, used for flushing catheters, gastrostomy tubes and other devices, in 50 mL. Needles are supplied under the BD PrecisionGlide™ name with a colour-coded hub convention. BD groups the offering into conventional syringes, conventional needles and syringe-and-needle combinations, the latter described by BD as a convenient way to administer a variety of injections.
