BD Pyxis™ Medication Management

BD Pyxis™ is BD's family of automated dispensing and pharmacy technologies for hospitals. BD positions the portfolio as a comprehensive system of automated dispensing solutions and pharmacy technologies deployed across a healthcare system, intended to enhance medication availability while increasing the security and control of both medications and supplies. In practice this means controlled-access cabinets at the point of care, supported by software that records who removed what, when and for which patient. The portfolio spans dispensing at ward level through to central pharmacy workflows, and BD presents it as part of a wider connected medication management approach in which dispensing devices, inventory data and the electronic medical record are linked. For pharmacy directors this is relevant to controlled-substance accountability, stock visibility across departments and reducing time nursing staff spend locating medication. Deployments are scoped per site — number of cabinets, drawer and bin configurations, network and integration requirements — so a Pyxis project is normally planned together with pharmacy, nursing and IT.
